Geriatric I.V. Therapy: Age 65 & Beyond WEB SEMINAR
Over 50% of patients admitted to the acute care environment fall into the older adult/geriatric patient group (age 65 and above). Current healthcare initiatives for early disease detection and management, lifestyle changes, and a focus on wellness are helping to create an older adult population who are healthier and more active than ever before. As this special patient group continues to increase, it is more important than ever for nurses to be knowledgeable about the physiologic changes that will occur during the aging process.
Venous access and infusions are a predictable therapy when a patient is admitted to acute care and is often a therapy delivered in the alternative care settings as well. This 1-hour Web Seminar will discuss the projected increase in the older adult and its impact on healthcare; the major physiology changes that require an altered approach when delivering I.V. therapy to older adults; the implementation of proper practice and attention to special care factors to facilitate safe I.V. therapy delivery; the proper steps for successful peripheral venipuncture; safe delivery of I.V. medications and fluids; and signs and symptoms of a bloodstream infection that may occur in the older adult/geriatric patient.
It will be presented live and unedited by Kay Coulter,
CRNI; and participants will have the opportunity to ask questions. It is the IDEAL opportunity for you to get the education you need from any location you choose!
